YOUR ST. LOUIS MO ORTHODONTIST
MEET DR. RICHARD MCDERMOTT
I have always loved both art and science, so orthodontics is the perfect profession for me. I truly love what I do! I feel very blessed to be able to spend my day helping people improve their lives by giving them a healthy and beautiful smile.
It is an exciting day for the patients when their braces are put on, but it’s an even bigger day when they come off. The enormous sense of accomplishment that is felt by the patients and parents on that special day is shared by me and my entire staff!
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
I completed my undergraduate studies at Brigham Young University between 1991 and 1996, and I met my future wife, Lisa, there.
We were married four days before I started dental school at The University of Southern California (USC), where I received my Doctorate of Dental Surgery (DDS) with honors in May 2001.
I was accepted into the USC orthodontics residency program, where I spent the next three years learning the art of orthodontics with five other residents and some of the best orthodontists in the world. It was an amazing experience!
I graduated in 2004 with a Master’s degree and Certificate in Orthodontics, and have been perfecting the art every day since.
Orthodontists vs. Dentists: Why Choose an Orthodontist?
Orthodontists and dentists both play crucial roles in maintaining oral health, but their specialties differ. Dentists focus on general oral care, such as cleanings, fillings, and preventive treatments. Orthodontists, however, specialize in diagnosing, preventing, and treating dental and facial irregularities. They undergo additional years of training to master the techniques required for teeth straightening and correcting bite issues.
Choosing an orthodontist for teeth straightening ensures you receive expert care tailored to your specific needs. Orthodontists use advanced technologies and methodologies to develop customized treatment plans, ensuring optimal results. Their specialized knowledge and experience make them the best choice for achieving a healthy, beautiful smile.
Comprehensive Benefits of Orthodontic Treatment
Orthodontic treatment offers numerous benefits that extend beyond simply having straight teeth.
- Physically, straight teeth are easier to clean, reducing the risk of cavities and gum disease. Properly aligned teeth also improve bite function, reducing the risk of jaw pain and excessive wear on teeth.
- Mentally, having a great smile can significantly boost your self-esteem and confidence. When you feel good about your smile, you're more likely to express yourself freely and engage with others. This boost in confidence can positively impact your personal, social, and professional life.
- Personally, a beautiful smile enhances your overall appearance, making you feel more attractive and youthful. Socially, it can improve your interactions with others, as a confident smile is often perceived as friendly and approachable.
- Professionally, a great smile can create a lasting impression, enhancing your opportunities for career advancement and success.
Investing in orthodontic treatment is an investment in your overall well-being. The physical, mental, personal, social, and professional benefits combine to improve your quality of life and give you a smile you can be proud of.
